When it comes to working in teams there are many dynamics that effect how every one works together. In evaluating a team, you must pay attention to specific characteristics that makes a group effective. An effective group is one that achieves high levels of task performance, member satisfaction, and team viability. Task performance in an effective group achieves its performance goals in the standard sense of quantity, quality, and timeliness of work results. For member satisfaction, in an effective group is one whose members believe that their participation and experiences are positive and meet important personal needs. The group is satisfied with their tasks, accomplishments, and interpersonal relationships. Lastly is team viability which …show more content…
In the forming stage the team would shape shared goals to aid or go along with personal objectives. This would help them reach task performance and be able to work together efficiently. The storming stage is the second stage of Tuckman's five stages which helps define group tasks. Within the storming stage you are learning how to deal with stress and handle the task that are given to the workers. This is where their roles will be established and they can now know the importance of their task and how they will work as a unit. The norming stage is the third stage where you begin to build relationships to create a better work environment so the work place is more productive. This stage requires everyone learning each others goals and keeping them in mind to help everyone succeed in completing their task. The performing stage is the fourth stage which deals with maturing in relationships and in task performance. Within this stage the workers have now figured out and recognized their goals and now have relationships at work that create a better work environment that people can be positive and succeed. The adjourning stage is the fifth and last stage of Tuckman’s stages where team members now can celebrate their accomplishments. The reason I say this is because the lady member feels she can not complete the work because of what’s going on in her personal life. She constantly disrupts and feels the agenda is a joke because the task seems unrealistic. Another person that is playing the dysfunctional role is the older male member because he is constantly rushing the meeting so he could leave and go elsewhere. He was also pushing roles on people when they felt unsure of their task. When it comes to task roles, Joe is the initiator, the lady member is the summarizer, the older male is the information giver or seeker, and the Asian male is the questioner.
