Truth To Carnegie's Statement: Does It Prepare You For Life?

Decent Essays
I think there is alot of truth to Carnegie's statement. Yes, school is great they teach you alot of things and help you comprehend situations better but does it prepare you for life? No, it doesn't. This class is probably the only class I have ever heard of to better prepare you for life. Most of the time we go into our classes and take notes until class is over and take it home and study for a quiz or test that is coming up. We work so hard to achieve our degree and get out of college that by the time we are gonna be done we won't know what to do with it. I agree with what Brian has said about the two types of knowledge which is being book smart and the real world smarts (street smarts). You have to be able to balance them both or you won't

In this essay, “College Prepares People for Life,” by Freeman Hrabowski portrays the notion that college is an absolute requirement to prepare students for “THE REAL WORLD”. Hrabowski embellishes the fact that without college, students are not going to be ready for the competitive job market and won’t be able to reach a high level of success if they don’t have the college experience. Yes Hrabowski point of view is completely understandable because in today’s society college has become such a norm and a place if you don’t go you will ostracized for, that students have no choice then to mindless focus on something that they are not passionate about. As a joiner in high school I can vouch first-hand the peer pressure from school, friends, teachers,…

Some assume an education and a degree are the only things they will get out of the college experience. Some might think going to college will change them into a different person. Life in general brings many new adventures that in the beginning seem scary, but if one is willing to adapt to become someone new that uncharted territory will one day become not so foreign. The talk that Ken Robinson shared is very inspiring and motivating. I have learned something in his 20 minutes talk. I agree with what he said, because He speaks the truth. One of what he says is that, we people are put in a place where we have no idea of whats going to happen, he also said that everybody has an interest in education but not all has given the right and chance to experience education for personal and different reasons. Education teach as a lot and leads us to where we want to be if we are determined and motivated enough to learn, different hindrances are just challenges that test us, tests our limits and patience if we really are strong and brave enough to solve whatever problems that comes in our way, and we are not afraid…

College Is Not the Key to Success In College is a Waste of Time and Money by Caroline Bird she explains how college was a good place for a few kids that were drawn to their academic work, but now it is stupid for kids to go to college when all they are doing is wasting their time and money. Bird is right, the only reason they go to college is to make their parents happy not for the education part. She explains that young adults in college are sad, mostly because they are just thrown into the real world without knowing what is going to happen next. They do not know what is best for them so they think going to college will help them get a better job in the long run. Most teachers, engineers, and even nurses said they do not use what they…

From the day we start school, it is drilled into our brain that college is the only way to have a good future, but that may not be the case at all. Just ask Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg. Although it helps to have a revolutionary idea like these men, it is not necessary. Ordinary people can also achieve success without a college degree. At least, that’s what Charles Murray in his article “Are Too Many People Going to College?”…

For many college students, obtaining a degree carries with it the guarantee of employment. To be young is to be idealistic. Many students chose a path of study believing it will guarantee them employment, yet a degree in art history is nowhere near as applicable as a degree in law or medicine. Students should be culpable for their own choices, but I believe that the college education system often presents all areas of study with a sort of romanticism; it seems to say that, with the right amount of hard work and dedication, you can make a successful career out of any major. For many people, this simply is not…
