Trojan War - one of the central events in Greek mythology. The appearance of the Trojan War, ancient sources attribute the will of Zeus, who wished either to "reduce the burden of the earth" (Eur Hel 36-41;.... Procl Chrest 1), or allow the famous heroes of the divine, or stored in the memory of posterity the beauty of his daughter Elena. Historians have always found the fine line between narrative as myth or history problematic, an issue that Herodotus, one of the great ancient Greek historians, attempts to deal with by rationalizing myth, so as to still incorporate it into his accounts, and actively distinguishing myth from history. Rationalization boils myth down into its most fundamental components, supporting the argument that myth is simply history spun out of proportion or misremembered by exposing myth’s basis in real life events. Recognizing this, Herodotus rationalizes the Helen myth to strip away the embellishment of more poetic retellings and reveal at the myth’s core larger scale motivations for the Trojan War – attitudes towards women and past conflicts – in order…

Although the war was fought by the Greek soldiers and the Trojan soldiers, the soldiers had no say in who won the battle. The gods favored different sides in the Trojan war and all had their reasons, but even the god’s power over all was not enough to decide the war. The war was solely decided by the fates who influenced the actions of the soldiers and the gods. The all-powerful gods seem to have power over everything and mortals make large sacrifices to the gods before every battle valuing their favor. However, the gods cannot make either side win the war because they make greater sacrifices or are more reverent.…

I think that the Trojan war was unjust, there was no reason to start the war in the first place. Wars are supposed to be the last resort of action, only to be fought when there are no other options. Wars also need a valid reason to start. Just because a lady gets kidnapped doesn't mean that the whole country should be put at risk, forcing the men to fight. The biggest reason the war was unjust is that the whole thing was because of the gods.…

After the Persian wars where Athens and Sparta defeated the Persian empire in 479 BC the golden age of Greece was born an age of great military, political and philosophical advancement. The Peloponnesian Wars were caused by Sparta’s fear of the spread of democracy, coupled with Athenian expansion goals, these great ambitions led to the loss of the Peloponnesian war and brought about the collapse of the Athenian empire. The approach that will be used to examine this is by examining the government and military strengths and weaknesses of both Greek states and their allies as well as some judgment errors made by the Athenian leaders in order to expand their empire which backfired. In order to do determine why the Peloponnesian Wars broke out…

So what Zeus did was ask Paris to pick one of the goddesses as the most beautiful. Each goddess offered different goods to get him to pick them: “Hera offered domination over all the world; Athena offered a glorious military career; but Aphrodite offered the best prize, the most beautiful women in the world” (Powell, Barry. Chapter 19: The Trojan War). This woman was Helen, who was already married, and this is what caused the war. Thus the gods were to blame for the Trojan War since it was Eris that started this mess with Hera, Athena and Aphrodite, which eventually led to the war.…

If I could be any mythological character in the Trojan myth, I would be Thetis, a water nymph and the mother of Achilles, because she is caring, and more importantly, she isn’t involved in many gory parts of this myth. First, Thetis is caring. She holds back Achilles from going to to Troy after Helen was taken from Menelaus. Thetis knows Achilles is fated to die there if he goes, so she makes him wear women’s clothes to the court of Lycomedes to hide, however, he was eventually found out. Also, in order to bring honor to her son, Thetis asks Zeus to give success to the Trojans.…

The Trojan War was being fought in the 13th or 12th BC which was a period of time known as the Bronze Age. In Greek Mythology, the war was fought against the city of Troy after Paris of Troy took Helen from her husband who is the King of the Spartans. Many people fought wars to achieve and gain pride or themselves and their family. Although in Ancient Greece many were fearless and brave: in the Trojan War, Hector, a fierce Greek warrior, portrays the most hero-like qualities, in the epic poem, the Iliad, by stepping up and leaving his family for the sake of his city, Troy, knowing that there was no chance of survival and being able to return to his family. In a famous article, Man in the Water, a heroic man single-handedly gave up his life for…
