All cell organisms have this chain of nucleotides that give them a unique coding that helps everything differ from one another. Whether within plant or animal cells, these coding strands contain our genetic information. The creation of our genetic codes derives from a mixture of our parent genetic codes. These codes we contain are called DNA, also known as deoxyribonucleic acid. These DNA strands carry all our information. Skin color, eye color, body shape, hair type, etc. This creates us individuals. With DNA being so vital to everyday life it has several functions. One function is being the creator of chromosomes in our body. Chromosomes are groups of DNA that are tightly coiled in together. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes that make up our genetic mutation. For example, if a person is born with an XY chromosome that will be born a male, if they’re born with a XX chromosome they will be born a female. These chromosomal codes help scientist see and predict genetic mutation within an animal cell and plant cell. These codes also show diseases that may occur within the genetic coding of chromosomes. …show more content…
He first described the condition as “Mongolism,” but was later changed to Down syndrome. Trisomy 21 is an abnormality in chromosome 21. What causes the condition is the added chromosome to human chromosome 21. This chromosome is very important as it contains about 300 genes that create our body. The extra genetic material completely changes the normal development of a human, causing Down syndrome. This trait is not inherited. It usually occurs at random when the reproductive cell of the parent is forming. About 1 in 800 infants are born with Down syndrome. There is also a higher rate of having a child with Down syndrome if the woman has a child at a later age. But saying that since the abnormality is a random occurrence it may still happen at any age of a woman’s
