Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted disease. It is caused by infection with a protozoan. A parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. The reactions of the symptoms from this disease can vary. People who have the parasite cannot always tell if they are infected. The parasite is transferred from one infected person to another uninfected person while having intercourse. In women, it infects the vulva, vagina, or urethra, and in men, inside of the penis. During intercourse, the parasite is transferred from a penis to a vagina or vice versa. However, it can also be passed from one women to another. This parasite can also infect other body parts, such as the hands, mouth, or anus. Doctors are unsure why some people with the infection get symptoms
