Often in a hero's journey or quest, they face a challenge that is insurmountable even for the hero to accomplish. At this point in a story, the hero can either quit and return home or receive help from what seems to be an unassuming passerby who may accompany the hero for a portion of the journey. This passerby or companion is described by Joseph Campbell in The Hero With A Thousand Faces as a supernatural aid, a figure who protects the hero throughout his trials, typically through gifts of amulets (57). Typically they are not as unassuming as they appear; without them, the hero might give up his journey and return to a menial life without purpose or fail at a pivotal point in their journey, possibly resulting in death, without accomplishing anything of worth.…
According to Joseph Campbell’s A Hero With A Thousand Faces, a hero’s journey is described as a “monomyth” that follows a narrative formula similar to the cosmogonic cycle, which is cycle of creation. The movie Up is one of the innumerable stories that fit the various stages of hero’s journey specified in Stuart Voytilla’s Myth and Movies. He unleashed a flurry of japs and punches in his rage. To my surprise, every individual hit was strong and hurt upon impact. Since the 19th Century, Native Americans have faced oppression from the American culture. Although free to leave, many Native Americans feel confined to their reservations, trying to cling on to the last bit of tribal culture they have left. Their culture, however, has been radically changed by the modern American culture. Sherman Alexie perfectly portrays this oppression and the plight of the Native American in Indian Killer and The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven.
