Transcada Executive Summary

TransCanada uses GIS for data management, mapping, geospatial analysis, and sharing the data through the company standard GIS web mapping application. Some of the technical specifications and standards for TransCanada is ensuring data integrity. It is one of TransCanada’s mission to provide quality geospatial products and services to Operations and Engineering. A set of quality standards and technical specification has been established in order to ensure the data meets the required accuracy for business processes. The custom extensions allow multiple users to edit data at the same time. Uploading new pipeline data or updating large volume of existing data is done with custom bulk upload tools. Each functional team is responsible for specific data sets, processes, tools, and applications. The imagery mosaic is updated every time new imagery is purchased, so it has the most current imagery. The historical imagery can also be consumed in ArcMap. Also, map checklists vary from project to project. Some complex level projects require a map checklist mostly to being organized with the work happening on the field; for example remote sensing. Also, error models are usually found in vector data. Therefore, the GIS team at TransCanada is especially trained to work with error models and have the basic knowledge on a potential solution to fix these errors while mapping data.
