Purpose
• People do not follow the traffic rules. They tend to jump the signal and talk on mobile phones while driving.
• People think they can get away with breaking the law, especially when there is no traffic police around.
• This behaviour increases the number of accidents and also results in traffic jams.
• We undertook this assignment to modify this behaviour of the drivers.

O.B. Mod
• Fred Luthans and his colleagues used the organizational behaviour model to shape behaviour in a variety of organizations.
• OBM employs three kinds of consequences: financial reinforcement, non-financial reinforcement and social reinforcement.
Reinforcement Theory
• Reinforcement theory enhances desirable behaviour, while punishment and extinction diminish undesirable behaviour.
• Reinforcement and punishment represent the positive and negative consequences of behaviour.
• Positive consequences are the result of a person’s behaviour that a person finds attractive.
• Negative consequences are the result of a person’s behaviour that a person finds unattractive and aversive.
Reinforcement
• Reinforcement is the attempt to develop or strengthen desirable behaviour by either bestowing positive consequences or withholding negative consequences.
• Negative reinforcement occurs when managers withhold a negative consequence after a desirable behaviour.
Punishment
• Punishment is the attempt to eliminate or weaken undesirable behaviour.
• One way to punish a person is to follow an undesirable behaviour with a negative …show more content…
• In the absence of a stimulus, we observed a marginal decrease in the number of traffic violations, barring a few spikes.
• We observed a few familiar faces in the crowd and noticed changes in their behaviour.

Results
• On an average, the number of traffic violations was less in the presence of an intervention.
• Also, there were fewer cases of talking/texting while driving in that period.
• This behaviour could be attributed to two reasons
1. The graphic images of the consequences of texting while driving negatively reinforced the drivers from repeating that behaviour.
2. Messages like ‘Someone is waiting for you at home’ used family as reinforcement to encourage drivers to follow the signal.
• Also, the cases where other drivers follow the traffic violator were reduced. Recommendations
• The presence of traffic police would have further negatively reinforced the drivers against breaking the
