A parents job is to help a child establish themselves so that they can navigate their own way in the world.
If they don’t validate and mirror back a child’s feelings, thoughts, intuitions, and/or emotions then the child will literally have no sense of self. This is a basic need that has been withheld from the child. This falls under the category of what is oftentimes referred to as ‘toxic parenting.’ They have no defined sense of self so they have no inner way of relating to the world. For instance, they have nothing to connect to when faced with an emotion because their emotions were invalidated. If they’re not given a proper sense of self based on their own dignity and worth, then they will be met with an inner confusion. In order to compensate
