50 years ago, Dubai was a small village on the sea side of the United Arab Emiratis surrounded by deserts. People used different animals to travel such camels, horses and on foot, resources were scarce and less availability of water. People in Dubai were depending on pearl diving and fishing for a living, the sea was the main source of living.
But in the past 20 years, Dubai had developed rapidly, from a small city it because of a luxury destination with a variety of attractions and a European lifestyle. Dubai attracted 14.9 million visitors in 2016 alone, Dubai’s 2020 vision is to attract almost 20 million visitors which means an increase by 5 million visitors.

These increase levels in tourism helped expand the country’s economy as it is less dependent on the oil industry.
But on the other side, these rapid changes has many effects that can be negative for the society, when the changes are huge and rapid the people do not get the enough time to get adjusted and used to the changes as when it's slower the negative effects are less. Dubai yearly attracts millions of tourists from all around the world, tourists with different religious and cultural backgrounds of the people of the UAE. Also, the large number of the tourist in Dubai may affect the experience and daily activities of the local community at the attractions as it will be used by tourists too.

The way we think is widely affected by what presented to us on a large scale or a small scale. Tourism has the ability to change the way people live, think and work. It can change the social values of the people involved. When tourism improves and people get involved with tourism they share their cultures, their festivals, and their special experiences. Through this, they learn to respect the other party and their opinions, ideas and lifestyles of others. When tourism does not reach such standards it can leave in social disorder, crime, degradation, a loss of values, and a sense of either low standard or high standard both of which can be risky. Another issue is the social capacity of a tourism destination when people engaging in recreational activities need a minimum amount of physical space in order to follow their activity in an unrestrained manner. Interference with these needs for space due to extreme density will lead to physical crowding to be experienced. Like all social activities, tourism may have both positive and negative consequences, but their respective levels depend on the number and the type of tourists that a host country gets and the level of cultural conditions of the host
