The first issue presented in the case is that Den-Con did not change the operations of their business; instead the company defines specifically how it does well what it does. The issue with this is that in a changing world as this, changes within firms should be of great concern. In addition, the company faces a challenge in which they did not fulfill all the underlying characteristics of total quality management, thus they may not be considered to be a TQM company in the strictest sense. The consequence of this of this is a result of lack of employee empowerment. What this means is that when a firm has good quality program they will be able to survive within the market despite the various factors that may affect them. Attention to quality will allows a business to improved marketability, decrease operational costs, additionally may also allows for better management control which will in turn increase customer satisfaction. Nonetheless, it also foster an improvement in communication, in doing this the needs of customers will be better able to be satisfied.
Another opportunity that Den-Con can take advantage is that the company can gear itself in becoming a Total Quality Management company. This can be done because it was highlighted in the case that the only reason Den-Con would not be classified as a TQM company is that the company did not carry out all the characterises of TQM system. Since it would only not be classified as one in the strictest sense, the company may have the opportunity to change that. This can be done by fulfilling all the elements of characters that are listed as criteria under TQM. These criteria include the

In other words, quality is the” ability of a product or service to meet customer needs” Burns and Thorpe (2011, p. 226). There are various implications of quality as well as the cost of quality. The implications of quality are:
• Company reputations – an organization`s reputation is dependable upon quality, whether it be good or bad. This means that quality will give perceptions about the organization new goods and services, job practices and also the relationship between suppliers.
• Product liability – it is mandatory that organizations produce, design as well as distribute goods and services of high quality.
• Global implications - when thinking about going globally, companies must ensure that products meet global quality, design and price expectation.
The cost of quality on the other hand includes:
• Prevention cost – these are cost involved with reducing the potential for detective parts and services. These may include employee training and or quality improvement
