Fiction is a piece of work created from the imagination of its creator. This piece of work can be communicated though TV shows, movies, novels, plays, etc. There are many different types of fiction genres such as mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, and romance. Fiction has been present for centuries in the form of storytelling and has evolved over the years so as to be part of our everyday life. The concept of fiction is more than just entertainment; it is personally enriching and offers an escape. Fiction is good at expressing events in interesting ways, is able to enhance our ability to accept differences, it warps our realities, and is a dangerous weapon that can be used to push past the societal norms. Society has created customs of what they expect people to follow. Fiction can be used to revolt against those traditions and create change. Plays, novels, and other forms of fiction have been used to express that boundaries are to be pushed and altered. Movies such as ‘The Hunger Games’ have aided in aspiring girls to become more than what their society’s gender role had planned for them. Another movie that attacked the societal norms during its time was ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ that dealt with childhood, race, and the views of those unknown to show the existence of social inequality and how acceptance can accomplish more than animosity. Fiction rallies people behind the change of the world that they live in. Realities present in fiction at times mirror our own but at the same differ from the norms present. This can make people question why things are the way in their own society. If one person has that question then more than likely many other people do too. Over time this belief of wanting something better for themselves will cause societal traditions to change and alter what the people for their own betterment want. Fiction inspires people to become greater than what could be achieved in their own society and causes them to demand more freedom and to not be constrained by society’s
