When Scout first met Calpurnia she thought she was very mean because she would always yell at Scout. An example of this was when Walter came over for dinner and she was making fun of him. Cal got very mad and had a serious talk with Scout in the kitchen. Another reason was that Scout thought that Cal liked Jem better than Scout. She thought this because Cal would always give her attention to Jem but not Scout. Also Cal always tells Scout that she needs to treat everyone nicer. Once Scout had walked in Cal’s shoes, she realized that the only reason she was being strict with her was because she wanted to make Scout a better child. Another thing that Scout has learned about Cal is why she talks differently at church. Scout had figured out that the reason she talks differently is because she does not want to come off as mean to her friends and she does not want her friends at church to treat her differently. Boo is another character that Scout had tried to understand. Once Scout had walked in Boo’s shoes she realized that he actually is not as mean as everyone says he is. First of all, everyone says that Boo is creepy and mean but when Boo had wrapped the blanket around Scout that had made people think differently. Another thing that Scout had figured out is why Boo is always inside. Boo is always inside because he does not like the light, he is sick and Boo just does not like to come outside.
