Throughout the clips in the movie lighting is a small little detail that we may notice but not know the meaning of it, also in a black and white movie it can be a little harder to see. As the Finch family goes to the Robinson’s house late night, Atticus, Mr. Finch, gets out of the car as Jem is in the back seat watching, and scout is in the front sound asleep. As Bob Ewell comes on the set the lights get just a bit darker, and his hat casts a shadow just over his eyes to make him look more ominous. As Atticus comes out Mr. Ewell squints a bit as if Atticus was the light, it is a quick little thing very few may notice but it adds a bit of extra detail about each character without using a single word. Mr.Ewell is depicted as a sketchy character from the beginning you can tell from the scene that something isn't quite right targeting Atticus's family.
