Moral courage is the courage to take an action for moral reasons despite the risk of adverse consequences. The characters that have great moral courage are Atticus Finch, Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose, and Aurthur or Boo Radley. Atticus displayed the moral courage when he willingly defended Tom Robinson, a black man, despite the ruling ridicule he would receive. Atticus displayed the courage because he knew going in that he would be ridiculed but he believed that he would be going against his own morals if he didn’t defend Tom. Mrs. Dubose tried to break her morphine addiction before she died. She displayed moral courage because she had to overcome the extreme strength to stop it and also handle the ridicule she would receive. Boo Radley showed moral courage when he stepped outside to save Jem and Scout from the attacking of Bob Ewell. This was a display of moral courage because he risked being seen by all the neighbors to save Jem and Scout’s lives, knowing that is was the right thing to
