Life is beautiful, no matter what form it manifests. My scene in the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Jem has just watched the court trial of Tom Robinson and heard that he was shot 17 times trying to flee jail. Jem has a different mindset on life, and when Scout goes to kill a rolli polli Jem yells, protesting the act. Jem thinks of all life precious, this shows maturity and growth toward becoming a man. Jem shows his coming of age in this scene through conflict and symbolism.
When Jem stops Scout she asked him why she couldn't smash him Jem tells her that it's not harming her so why kill it.”Why I couldn't mash him” I asked “Because they don't bother you” Jem answered in the darkness,Scout understands and also will grow by this. Jem is becoming more like Atticus calm,kind, and smart. People would argue that if he didn't go through the court case he would have never told Scout to stop.
This is a person vs. nature conflict with Scout about to kill the rolli polli. Then when Jem interrupts her it turns into a person vs. person conflict Jem is filled with a lot of emotion right now and doesn't want to see that rolli polli die.”Reckon you're at the stage now where you don't kill flies and mosquitoes now, I reckon” Scout said “aw dry up” He answered drowsily” …show more content…
This is him coming of age in quite a large way, also now that he feels that way he will pass it on to Scout. Which will make Scout come of age. The novel To Kill a Mockingbird is a story of simple life experiences and unpresentable adolescents in a 1930’s world where racial tension is present everywhere. This book is more of a learning experience rather than a novel, it teaches us how even young people can have there own understanding of the world. Its small meaningfully things like this that truly change
