The Author which wrote this book (To kill a Mockingbird) is called Nelle Harper Lee, She was born in 1926 in Monroeville / Alabama. She has received many awards for her writings including this book. Some of the awards that Harper Lee has won include; Pulitzer prize, Two honorary degrees, The Brotherhood Award of the National Conference of Christians and Jews and the Paperback of the year award in only its second year of print, One of her most privileged awards that Harper Lee had won even though she only published one book in 2007 she was awarded the Presidential medal of freedom for her contribution to American literature. Also the novel was based during the 1930’s, These were the years That the Great Depression struck and caused a widespread of poverty and unemployment throughout the United States. This is the time where slavery was continually going on and rich families were dependant on slaves. This setting is important to the overall theme of the novel because it gives people an understanding of what it was like living in a rural town in hard-going times and it gives an insight to what the people and places are like. Maycomb County is a poor and very underdeveloped town, Although the the Finches (Scouts family) are a fairly well-off family, Living in a proper house, Atticus is well educated and has a full time job, They are easily able to afford a black house-maid.
