Regardless, as to whether or not a person is male or female. Almost every private and public college along with high schools, whether they be private or public must abide by Title IX (Darnell and Petersen, 2011). As previously mentioned, athletics was not the initial target and or area of focus of Title IX in the Educational Amendments that Congress passed in 1972. Yet when Title IX is brought up by the media, it tends to surface under athletic pretenses. This is partly due to the fact that sports play a huge part in the American society. Consequently, Title IX consists of three major components, which are applicable to athletics (Connolly and Adelman, 1994). Furthermore, the information showcased above also provided a two way prospective in regards to Title IX since its inaugural inception in 1972.
