Primary Health Care Centre covering services like immunisation, children, women’s and men’s health assessment disease prevention and health promotion, aged care assessment, palliative care, alcohol, tobacco and drug education, Indigenous health and specialist mental health services.
The Islanders Board of Industry and Service (IBIS) healthy choice program to promote healthy lifestyle and eating habits for Indigenous people; the program includes subsidising the provision of healthy and nutritious food to make it affordable.
Tertiary education facilitates James Cook University offering teaching and nursing courses to enable to retain within the island whilst completing the qualifications.
One of the other key strength of the island is the Torres Strait Islander culture, they share close connection with the land the sea and art and greatly valued by the community. Most islanders are culturally proud and share strong community ties. (TSRA 2015)
