Through The Tunnel Character Traits

“Through the Tunnel” explains the mysterious path of an 11 year old boy, Jerry. Unlike the diversities of unique characters in the short story, Jerry has his own set of personality traits that distinguish him from the rest of the characters in the writing. Traits are a quality or feature, particularly belonging to a person. Jerry is both determined and immature, balanced completely in his toddler-like mind. Although his determination, his immaturity blocks out all sense of logic and manners. For example, on page 3, Jerry asks for goggles to help him see underwater. Including the fact that Jerry was already rude, on page 3 again, when the “Big boys” left Jerry waggles his fingers around his ears. As if showing the “Moose” hand sign when you try to photobomb someone. Although, this is not is only trait, he is also very determined. Through his immature brain, what says goes for him. And when he saw the “Big boys” go through the tunnel, he immediately saw his final route to independence and maturity, so he decided to stick to it and go through the tunnel as well. His perseverance led him to make it through the tunnel, and that determination to complete the length also helped him go the final stretch. We can also prove that he's very determined through the training he put himself through, he trained how long he could hold his breath to be prepared to go the length of the tunnel. But this came with its own consequences. He still trained even though he was given surging nosebleeds, and immense headaches in return for his hard work. But he continued, and he still did finish the tunnel. But he almost died in the process as well.
