Naidu (personal communication, August 16, 2017) mentioned that within the nursing field it is very important that the three principles of Te Tiriti are applied not only to provide a framework for the nurses but to prepare them to take on the responsibility, accountability and leadership roles in addressing many of the gaps in engagement within health care. Nurses play a vital role in health care to address evolving patients’ needs so it is very important to not only understand the importance of the three principles but to also utilise the knowledge you have with whom you are working with. Naidu (personal communication, August 16, 2017) also stated that keeping in mind that it does not matter what ethnicity or background people are from we still need to treat everyone with dignity and respect.
