Three Major Sociological Theories

There are three major sociology theories that I will be talking about. They are functional theory, feminist theory, and critical theory. The functional theory is based on the works of Emile Durkheim, Robert Merton, and Talcott Parsons. Society is a system of interconnected parts that work together in harmony to maintain a state of balance and social equilibrium for the whole states the functional theory. The feminist theory is the extension of feminism into theoretical or philosophical discourse. It aims to understand the nature of gender inequality. The different parts of society are expected to work together naturally and automatically to preserve overall social steadiness. Because social institutions are functionally combined to form a stable system, a change in one institution will make a change in other institutions. Dysfunctional institutions, which do not contribute to the overall maintenance of a society, will cease to exist. Education plays in an important role in society. As with any social system, a group has a main goal of maintenance. In addition, groups have the specific goal of performing a task. These two goals are of greatest importance to groups. Family is an important factor in the functionalist theory because it is the basic building block of society which completes the crucial task of socializing the young and meeting the emotional desires of its individuals. Steady families support social order and economic strength. According to the functionalist theory, race and ethnicity are two of the many portions of a cohesive society. When different groups enters a new society they have disrupted the social balance. It looks at women 's social roles, experience, interests, chores, and feminist politics in a variety of fields. The history of feminism can be separated into three waves. The first feminist wave was in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the second was in the 1960s and 1970s, and the third ranges from the 1990s to right now. Feminist theory began from these feminist movements. The feminist theory believes in the equality of both men and women. Women have yet to meet the equality of most men in the world. Many feminist theories came out in 1792 and many publications during that time had the limited rights and privileges of women because of the wrong views on them. There was account on women being able to complete responsibilities that were made only for men. Many women used to argue how the government laws were so unfair to them and how these laws were able to punish them but not able to protect them. Many have since kept fighting for their
