Investigating crimes can be a hard job to do, having cases pile up and not having leads but probably the hardest case to investigate is a case that involves a child. According to FindLaw children are at a big risk. First and foremost investigating a crime that has a child as the victim can be a hard thing to have to see. That can take a toll on the people investigating the crime. Second is the fact that if a child is getting abused it could be the parents that are the ones doing this to the child. If you are doing the interview at the child's home make sure not to have your uniform on because the child might think they are going to jail because they think its their fault for what happened. Azcourts says it's best to have some toys for the child to play with but if there are to many toys for the child to play with they may get distracted and may not be very much help after that. Toddlers may not be old enough yet to be able to handle the interview be themselves, they may need their parents in the room which may cause another problem. The parent may not want the child to do the interview or may try to cut the interview short because they think it may make their child upset. If the parent has to be in the room during the interview then have the parent sit behind the child so the child can't see them which wont let them influence the child any. If the person doing the interview thinks that one or both of the parents is hurting the child then neither should be in the room during the interview.
