According to to document 1, colonist had to only get goods by trade to and from England, since they couldn't buy or sell things from each other they didn't earn much money. This evidence further explains why economic independence is a cause of the American Revolution because the British didn't want the colonist to gain any of the british power so they taxed them and made them only get things by trade.
