Three Adjectives That Describe My Character

Improved Essays
A person’s character can be observed by how they spend their time and what they do when nobody is watching. The various sports and clubs I am involved greatly impact my character. Three adjectives that describe my character are compassionate, outgoing, and sedulous.
Being compassionate and having deep care for others is something I strive for daily. This past summer when a deaf child joined the swim team that I coach, I took it upon myself to learn American Sign Language. This allowed me to be a much better coach to her and I was able to really interact with her. Learning Sign Language was not easy and I am still working on expanding my vocabulary. Another example of how I am compassionate is that I am a participant in a group called Rejoicing

When feeling compassionate, you feel concerned for others and wish to treat them more than they’re worth. If I were to be able to take the people in need, I would do it in such a heart beat. When reading the book Night by Elie Wiesel, I realized how compassionate he was throughout his whole journey of the Holocaust. To begin, Elie Wiesel from the start, was so generous enough to be able to share his own story. In this case, it would be so hard for someone to go through so much and still be able to have courage to talk about it.…

Compassion is helping out a neighbor and to suffer with them through a hard time. Compassion motivates people to go out of their way to help physical, spiritual, or emotional. The Dalai Lama once said that "compassion is a necessity, not a luxury", and that without it humanity cannot survive. One moment of compassion I have experienced is my father and I helping out my neighbor when he had to get both of his knees replaced.…

My first example of how compassion impacted me is when I saw someone help someone else get caught up on their work when they were absent. This act made me feel many emotions. It made me feel good that I go to a school where kids help out others. This kind act also made me feel grateful for the person helping another child out. After witnessing this act, I wanted to help someone.…

My goal in this paper is to analyze compassion, selfishness, and gullibility in an epistemic context. Specifically, how one’s level of compassion influence how they weigh evidence and knowledge – and how being compassionate, at least intellectually, can be considered an important epistemic virtue. Compassion, outside of an epistemic context, is generally viewed as a desirable character trait. I say generally, because no two individuals have exactly the same sense of what the word compassion truly means. This applies to any word representing an abstract character trait or idea, so discussion regarding what is specifically required to be a compassionate person is inherently subjective.…

I am naturally a compassionate person, so I thought this task would not be challenging. However, I was wrong. I tried not to limit myself to one act of compassion and to do this I had to be more aware of my surroundings and the needs of others at all times. Which was a challenge in itself because, I soon realized the challenges of being compassionate all of the time. Suggesting that trying to help others through their suffering has the potential to cause suffering to the helper.…

Compassion is sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. Bob Therman previously said, “Until you have real compassion, you cannot recognize love.” The America that we live in lacks compassion and love. When some people notice a homeless person they cuss them out, or when they see a homeless animal they abuse it. That is animosity of what should be done.…

Most people in today’s Western and North American societies see compassion as another commonly used word, when it has so much more meaning than that. Compassion is what brings people together, makes the world a better place, and allows others to connect with each other. Compassion is a necessity to the human experience because it keeps the world emotionally connected, whether we notice it or not. This is how I would identify the Ideal of Compassion. With compassion, people come closer together.…

Sibling rivalry is a common dispute throughout many households. However, during my younger years, it was severely intense between my sister, Samantha, and me; in fact, the battles were so frequent and unnerving, that in 2001 she [Samantha] was forced to reside with our biological father. Scientifically speaking, opposites attract, therefore, when you have two leads of the same identity they would repulse. Our personalities and preferences may be completely opposite, never the less, my sister and I have more in common than we care to admit. This movie was an extremely powerful movie. I am glad we watched it in class. It got me thinking about how I feel about forgiveness and compassion. One idea that I liked that was mentioned during the movie was one religion (I’m still not sure which one it is) has an idea of “40 days of grief”: if you cannot fully grieve the loss of a person after 40 days, you are impeding their soul’s journey to the next life. It is a very interesting idea, and will make me think after I have experienced a loss in my life.…
