Headline: Automotive Component Supplier Requires Rapid Multi-Step Upgrade
Subhead: ThoughtFocus delivers brownfield implementation in half the usual time, with no weekday downtime
The Challenge
For many industrial companies, IT spending is not always a high priority. One automotive component supplier had not upgraded its SAP system in over a decade, and found that the outdated technology was holding the business back in terms of flexibility and scalability.
While the CEO knows that technology is a strong strategic tool and wanted to add new features and enhancements to grow the business, their SAP solution was so dated that it would require a multi-step upgrade. In addition, the SAP solution was highly customized …show more content…
Fortunately, ThoughtFocus has an experienced team with tools that enable them to better understand the existing customizations, anticipate many of the challenges from code conversion, and closely map the project to minimize unexpected costs. ThoughtFocus’s experienced team also showed the company how many of the functions that required custom code in the past, can now be done by tailoring different standard modules thanks to the breadth and flexibility of the new S/4HANA platform. By eliminating much of the custom code, it saves time and money, as well as simplifies future support and upgrades. The company selected ThoughtFocus to migrate their SAP solution to Suite On HANA (SoH).
ThoughtFocus was also able to design a migration path that kept the company functioning during migration, while cutting the implementation time in half. Since the company’s existing SAP solution was so outdated, they would normally need a multi-step conversion, as their solutions was too old to move to HANA directly using a DMO migration. To reduce implementation time, ThoughtFocus did a “leapfrog” migration and upgraded the company to ECC, then used DMO to upgrade to SoH – cutting out several interim upgrades. Since this process would have to be done in all systems - development, quality, production and training – this migration would take most companies a minimum of 12 months. ThoughtFocus used a "leapfrog" migration to minimize the steps and speed
