Scott Fitzgerald you can see several similarities that show how Amory Blaine is based off of Fitzgerald himself. Like Amory, Fitzgerald went to Princeton University and like Amory he did not excel at academics because he was too invested in the social aspects of popularity to be bothered with studying.
