In the beginning of the novel, Bobby becomes invisible and has no idea what to do. He is very skeptical and in disbelief about it, so he goes back to sleep, hoping that it is a dream. His mom and dad leave him alone, despite his current issue. He is completely outraged by this and says, “So let me get this straight, Mom: Your kid goes invisible, and that’s not an emergency?” (Clements pg.19) This statement shows how aggressive Bobby is towards his parents because they do not care about him as much as he feels they should, especially now that he is invisible.

His dad says “If that’s the decision you’ve made, Bobby, then your mom and I will back you up a hundred percent.” (pg.111) Although his parents go back on their word later in chapter twenty-five and try to control Bobby’s life again, he chooses to respond more calmly this time. (pg.220) When Bobby becomes visible again, his relationship with his parents becomes a lot better, as both of them learn to listen to him and Bobby learns how to better convey his feelings. “And we all laugh and that sets off another round of hugs.” (pg.236)
Bobby’s personality changes throughout the novel because he becomes more vocal towards his parents and friends. He also develops a better understanding of his life after becoming invisible. Through his conflicts with his family and friends, Bobby grows to be a better
