Things I Learned In Writing

The things I struggle with most when it comes to writing are word choice, sentence fluency, and grammatical errors. Thinking back to high school I remember doing all of the grammar and punctuation worksheets. There were some days were I would struggle and then there were days I could fly through our assignment. Before last class period I thought I was pretty good at detecting nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, and so on. Maybe I just needed a refresher because I sat in that desk and drew a blank. I wish I could write a paper using better word choice. I tend to use the same boring, bland words. I hate reading a paper that is boring, but then I take a step back and look at my own paper and think to myself, is this boring? Next I would like

I have never enjoyed writing because I don't think I am good writer. I never want to sit down and write what ever is on my mind. English is one of my toughest subjects because since I’m not good at it, I haven’t taken the time to learn it properly, which makes it hard. In 8th grade, we were assigned a Research Paper. We were suppose to write at least 6-8 pages.…

For my rhetorical and visual analysis paper, I chose to write about the visual storytelling of an art school’s ad and how it was weak in its presentation. When I decided to write my thoughts on this topic, I wanted to illustrate my professional opinion on advertising and how important it is to touch on all aspects of rhetoric when working on a visual. I also wanted to include this essay rather than my rhetorical narrative paper because I was much more passionate on the topic of analyzing this advertisement. I had much more to talk about within the analysis and found that I also cared about identifying the flaws within the ad more than I did telling a personal story. All the feedback I was given in class was incredibly helpful, as I was able to pick up on what aspects of rhetoric I was lacking in my final draft.…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

I am very thankful to having taken this class. Before taking this class I had no idea what annotating was. Now I see that is a brilliant way to edit a paper and make sure that everything that is required of the paper is present. Also, every writing assignment that we have been issued this year came with a mass amount of information on the topic as has to how to write a evaluating, arguing, and an explaining essay. This information is going to help me very much in the future if I ever need to write an essay like the ones we wrote in class.…

My experiences with writing have been somewhat limited until I signed up for English 101. I have to admit that English was not my favorite subject in school. I never felt like I was any good at writing, and spelling is still not my strong suit. I always felt like I was better at math. My attitude towards writing was my biggest hindrance to my success.…

Dear, Professor Hampton I’ve been having a lot of trouble with my math course, I’ve never been very good at math, I’ve actually always struggled with it tremendously. I failed my previous test and it brought my overall grade down. I think I know the underlying problem besides not knowing my multiplication facts but, at times, in the classroom i find my mind wondering off and I have to literally talk to myself and channel out the distractions. My first question, what are some other methods I can use to channel out the outside distractions because it’s beginning to do harm to my school work. I’ve also been having a hard time connecting to my writing in my writing class, when i write what i want, I put much effort into and really take advantage…

In Freshman Composition I have learned a few things thus far but plan to learn many more things about this class and also about myself. I have learned that MLA formatting is still a rule and this class will not allow procrastination. From what I have learned so far I expect this class to be easy as long as I stay focused on the task. Although I am great at procrastination I have set a goal in my educational career to get the assignments done prior to the night before. This goal will help me succeed greatly in this class throughout the semester.…

Who doesn’t struggle with writing? I know I always have struggled with writing, for the longest time I didn’t even really understand the differences in sentences, and it is something that’s still confuses me a little bit. To be completely honest I sometimes procrastinate longer than I should when it comes to writing, so I don’t always review the finished product the way I should. Life gets in the way occasionally, and I attempt to convince myself that I have plenty of time to finish they assignment. This particularly gave me problems in high school.…

The way I went about writing and revising my paper was putting all of the thoughts I had in my head onto the paper. I put on some background music and just let myself go, I wrote the first things that came to mind and then brought it to class. Many people talked about my grammar and spelling were not great but I wrote the paper as if I was talking. I was the first person to be work shopped and I wanted to go first because I knew that if I waited to get work shopped at the end I would have procrastinated and the paper would have been rushed.…

Great writing starts with a structured process (GCU Lecture Notes, 2015). The tips I have learned over the years that helps me with my writing are First; I give myself enough time to review the assignment requirements. I use the grading rubrics as guidelines to brainstorm ideas, and research topics as per the instructor’s instructions. Second, I create a rough draft, outline my ideas and research materials, than use those sketches as heading for my paper. In this step I do not worry about grammar, I just ensure I am following instructor requirements.…

In high school, I excelled at writing, and my grades reflected that. However, throughout high school, writing became a routine thing for me. I would look at the prompt and begin writing. I was challenged many times but forgot why it was important to be challenged. To me, an academic learner is someone who challenges themselves in areas they already thought they knew about.…

Describe Yourself As A Writer I’ve come to realize that after years of writing papers, I’m actually a better writer than I give myself credit for. I’ve noticed over time that I’ve advanced in how I structure my paragraphs, however, not so much with my sentences. It’s like making a cake look delicious at first glance with frosting and decorations, but then you take a bite and there 's way too much sugar or it 's overcooked in the inside. My strength in writing includes: using better words to describe what I’m writing about, spelling complex words, creativity, and passion.…
