What is discrimination in the workplace ? Discrimination is defined as an unfavorable and unequal treatment towards a person or a group of people due to the differences with other individuals. These differences can take various forms and are all different from each other. Such as the origin ( race) , religion and the sex of a person. However, discrimination can be direct and indirect.
What is the difference between those two characteristics ? Direct discrimination is mostly known as treating someone unfairly and unfavorable because of their certain characteristic that they might not like in them, also people making unfair opinions and assumptions about what a person can and cannot do due to their characteristic.
An example of this could be an old woman willing to apply for a job , and getting refused due to her age and that she is too old for learning new skills.
Indirect discrimination is when everyone gets treated equally, but then disadvantages unfairly someone because of a personal characteristic of a person protected by law.
An example of this could be giving an employee an unfair task.
Laws for discrimination exists and it works but at the same time discrimination does not stop and continues.

There are many effects decrease employee productivity affects the companies and the person, it affects the companies because when someone is discriminated against there are high chances of him to suddenly lack interest in the job and even drop the job. It also then creates tension between the workers, being treated differently but being in the position , as an example getting payed more than the other person and then feeling uncomfortable in front of this person this could create tension, and could bring to worse quality of
