A thesis statement includes a claim or the main points that are going to be used in the essay. Some writers put their thesis statements in the beginning of the essay, some put it at the end of the essay, and others put it in the middle of the essay. Evidence is used to make your arguments valid and relevant. Evidence helps you build credibility and helps relate your argument to their personal life. Wenke uses a survey conducted by Dean Morton, a broadcaster for Good Morning America, to help her claims. “as many as 98 percent of students who participated in the survey admitted to cheating.”(paragraph 8, page 535). This statement is a good piece of evidence because it shows that her claim is true. This piece of evidence was placed in the paragraph following her thesis statement. Once again showing where you place things change the impact of your essay. To go along with evidence, I feel that a personal experience helps your argument. It helps give you credibility and will help you win your audience over. Wenke does talk about her discussions with her parents about cheating in this essay but never says she cheated or helped someone cheat. I feel if she would've had a personal story with the topic it would have had a greater impact on her
