Week 7 Motivation and Emotion
1. Motivation is the driving force that initiates, goal maintenance and guide processes behind behaviours. There are five types of perspectives on motivation. Psychodynamic perspective distinguishes the personality between conscious and unconscious motives. Behaviourist perspective suggests that reinforcement of behaviours gives motivation whereas punished behaviours are avoided. Cognitive perspective proposes that goal motivation depends on the perceived ability to acquire the goal. Humanistic perspective proposes the hierarchy of needs where lower levels must be to satisfy and motivated to fulfil the level of high needs. Emotion is an evaluated response that includes experience, behavioural and emotional expressions. Different emotions give different facial expressions. The basic emotions can be interpreted similarly across cultures. However, there are display rules that people control their own expressions of emotions, due to their specific and standards of culture. Emotions are categorised into positive and negative affect. Positive leads to pleasant motives whereas negative leads to unpleasant motives. There are two theories of emotion. ‘James-Lange theory,’ states that emotions arise from peripheral nervous system response, which is interpreted by the central nervous system. ‘Cannon-Bard theory,’ states that emotion-inducing stimuli simultaneously produces peripheral and emotional …show more content…
The cultural view on weight are relatable to my life however on a more extreme basis. As a Chinese-Vietnamese born in Australia the ideal views on weight are conflicting due to the Asian standards of slimmer and slight figure with a low weight and the Australian standards of a more built and fuller figure. As I am residentially based in Australia, the bulking trend is a more confronting factor thus my views are sway more towards it. This provides unnecessary stress towards me, as due to my Asian genetics it is extremely difficulty to gain the required weight in order to achieve the ideal standard of beauty for male in Australia. Thus my state of mind is in a conundrum as I am easily able to achieve one ideal standard that is unwanted whilst wishing to achieve
