Parallel Plot In George Orwell's Animal Farm

Animal Farm is set in the English countryside on a farm. This farm begins as a human-run farm, like all other farms in England. However; one night, Old Major --the oldest pig-- gathers all the animals of the farm and tells them about the animal revolution that his mother told him. A few months after Old Major’s death, the animals rebel. Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is about how the farm survives for the first 10 years or so of its being controlled by animals. All works of literature use techniques to engage and entertain their readers, such as parallel plot and flashback. In Animal Farm, there are many uses of parallel plot: the pigs’ power struggle, Boxer’s life, the Seven Commandments, etc. One of the plots in Animal Farm is, as aforementioned, the power struggle between the pigs. Before the rebellion, the humans were in power. After the initial fight, there were no real leaders among the animals, leaving the power to whosoever were to take it. The pigs were that group. Generally recognized as the smartest of the animals, the pigs easily garnered the animals’ support. As soon as they could, the pigs began to exploit their power. The first act of this was theft of milk. Orwell tells the story in such an objective way that it is really up to you what you see in it and how you relate it to the world. In my opinion, Animal Farm is about America’s history and the corruption that happened to the seemingly perfect system. Unfortunately, since this was published in 1945, it was soon turned into anti-communist propaganda, and is still seen by many as being about the Soviet Union today, a remnant of our society’s history of hostility towards communism and
