Huck acted this way, because he didn’t know that there was someone that cared about him. Huck was dumb to still follow Tom’s way even though he knew it was a bad decision. “ I’ll tell you. It ain’t right and it ain’t moral, and I wouldn’t like it to get out--but there ain’t only just the one way; we got to dig him out with the picks, and let on it’s case knives. ( Twain 186). Huck finally realized how horrible Tom is, but he still follows his way. He kept on thinking that this was not a great idea, because he wanted to save his friend, not have a fun adventure. In the end the villain got punished, for instance, Tom got shot for picking this horrible way and ,Jim and Huck didn’t were not the ones shot. Huck betrayed the conmen in saving Mary and the girls. “ I put it in the coffin. It was in there when you was crying there, away in the night. I was behind the door, and I was mighty sorry for you, Miss Mary Jane.” (Twain 144). Huck knew they were con men, but he didn’t realize how evil they were, that they would kill for money. In fact, Huck does not challenge anything that the King and Duke do, even if it degrades Huck. For instance, Huck follows the King’s outrageous demands, including ““g[etting] down on one knee to speak to him, and always call[ing] him “Your Majesty,” and wait[ing] on him first at meals, and [not] s[itting] down in his presence”. Huck has lost any sense of self worth and worth for others and wishes to merely stay out of trouble, something that Twain condemns. Twain develops a strong bond between Huck and Jim despite these popular beliefs and opinions. This says so much about each of their characters, but especially Huck’s. We can see Huck’s character when he is describing a moment when Jim was having a bit of an emotional breakdown.…

This diction is not giving the reader a solid foundation of Pap, doubting that he would be a good “father figure” in Huck’s life. As a parent, their sole job is to care for their child.
