Truth In The Crucible

Mallory In “The Crucible”, Arthur Miller is trying to explain both faith and truth in a different way it should be explained. The theme of the entire play is evolved around the constant adversity of faith and truth. Furthermore, the idea of the play was the rising action and adversity, and then standing up for the truth and what was right. Like many additional stories and plays are comparision with “The Crucible” and the major turning of events. Even though, the truth isn’t always the truth in “The Crucible”, but occasionally it may in fact be the truth. Nevertheless, people in Salem were losing all faith in what was real and what they believed in the most and that’s God. Nobody understands the true meaning of the truth and fact back in the 1800’s, especially, in a book like “The Crucible”. John Proctor for example, in the beginning of the story he wanted to keep distant from the witch trials. Nevertheless, when Elizabeth was arrested for being convicted of a crime because everyone had thought she was involved with witchcraft. However, Proctor went to the courthouse to bail Elizabeth out of jail, yet he noticed something odd about the whole situation. He had noticed that other women were being convicted of the same crime as Elizabeth, but most of the women being convicted were innocent women. So, Proctor decided to help them out, but he ended up getting arrested himself. Even so, he had a chance to free himself, but he had to testify against the others. He just wouldn’t be happy with himself if he testified, so he didn’t go through with it because he thought it wasn’t the right task to do. Proctor cleansed himself at the trial, and fought for what he believed in and that was the truth. Proctor knew he did the right thing for the people, even though, he died a righteous man. Though he did stay away from the church, he became more than the common Puritans. Nevertheless, Proctor learned what truth really meant through the suffering. I think Proctor’s struggle throughout the play Miller displays the struggles and choices other people have been through as well. Many times everyone has witnessed some wrong doings that’s happened to them and wished to never get involved. However, like Proctor, sometimes there’ll be something that draws your attention and want to fight for the truth, in some situations. During the whole play, everyone started losing more and more faith in everything they believed in because of the Witch Trials. Especially, Reverend Hale is a prime example of what faith truly meant to people in Salem at
