Another example that displays this characteristic of a traditional/totalitarian is the movie, The Island. Dr. Bernard Merrick is the person in control and conveys the sense of hope in the clones
by expressing the idea of potentially going to the island. Lincoln-Six Echo a clone like all of the other inhabitants in the carefully controlled environment hopes to be chosen to go to the "The Island". However, Lincoln-Six Echo comes to this harsh reality and realizes that everything about his existence is a lie. With this outcome, it clearly shows Dr. Merrick’s intensions to steer the minds of the clones into the hope of possibly going to the island, but he eventually uses them to cheat death.
As stated by President Snow, “hope is the only thing stronger than fear.” Coming from the movie, The Hunger Games, this briefly summarizes the government structure of a totalitarian dictatorship where President Snow, who has complete control of all the districts, uses his power to place hope into the minds of people chosen to participate in The Hunger Games. These games are used by President Snow to regulate the citizens of all 12 districts. Many do not question his authority and if something does not go as he has planned, he deals with them by killing; as he does with the first game maker. Snows dictator type traits gives him respect with a hint of fear. Snow also uses propaganda as a key to gain control
