Shakespeare's use of characterization helps show the immoral theme in Hamlet. For instance Claudius' actions show him to be immoral. For example when Claudius is praying and says “ It hath the primal eldest upon't / A brother's murder” (3.3.38-39). This shows how immoral Claudius is killing his own brother. Furthermore immorality is shown in Laerte's speech. For instance when Laertes is talking to Claudius about how he should kill Hamlet , Laertes says he plans “To cut his throat i' th' church”(4.7.127). For example when Hamlet and Horatio are talking Hamlet says “how strange or odd soe'er I bear myself/ (As I perchance here after shall think meet/ to put an antic disposition on)”(1.5.171-73). Hamlet's speech shows him that he plans to act crazy to deceive people so he can can get information out of them. Polonius actions' also show deceit. For example when Polonius wants to spy on Hamlet and Gertrude's conversion Polonius says “Behind the arras I'll convey myself, to hear the process”(3.3.29-30). Another example of Polonius' deception is when he wants to spy on Ophelia and Hamlet's conversation and Polonius says to Claudius “ Be you and I behind an arras then/ marl the encounter”(2.2.164-165).
