(1996). Coming to America: The Story of Immigration. Scholastic Press.
Main reasoning for choosing book: The pre-service teacher felt this book a great addition to this collection. Students know that people move to America from other countries but do they know what that process entails?
Synopsis of story / book: The book explores the evolving history of immigration to the U.S. -- a long saga about people searching for religious and political freedom, safety, and prosperity.
Relevance to theme and benefit to the reader’s understanding of topic: Being born and raised in America means that most grow up without knowing the stress and frustration of immigrating to a new world. This book is very insightful!
