Part 12: Rough Draft#1 Ambrose Bierce short story The Boarded Window is very interesting, when you read The Boarded Window you think that it’s just about a man and his wife that had pass when he was young but it’s very grim at the middle and the end of the story. Bierce new how to get the reader interested in the story. Themes that run throughout the short story The Boarded Window are, death, supernatural, and loneliness. In most of the short story, there is death.In Short Stories for Students, Jenifer Smith states, “One day Murlock was found in his cabin, dead”( Bierce 2). Murlock´s wife had died young, after Murlock died he was buried nexted to his wife. In The Boarded Window there is death at the beginning of the story and the end. Murlock was isolated in the woods there was no one for miles. After his wife had passed away he stayed in his house away from civilization. He only went into to get food.
In the Short Story for Students, Jenifer Smith States, “At the same time he heard, or imagined he heard, a light, soft step and then another. The sound were as bare feet walking upon the floor! He was afraid beyond the power to cry out or move”. Murlock thought it was the ghost of his wife walking around the house, he was so scared that he just sat there in fear of what would happen if he had move.
