The Knight finally learns his lesson when his old wife gives him an ultimatum, he decides,”I leave the matter to your wise decision. You make the choice for yourself” (Chaucer 149). Allowing his wife to make the decision for herself gives the marriage equality which in turn binds the lesson that just saved the Knight’s life. In "Federigo's Falcon" the theme is love encourages giving and sacrifices. Federigo goes around spending large amount of money so “spending far more than he could afford...Federigo lose his entire fortune” (Boccaccio 161). Federigo’s deep love for Monna encourages his sacrifice of wealth to give her everything she could ever want. Both Stories share the overall message in that love comes with sacrifices. The Knight learns in "The Wife of Bath's Tale" he cannot always be the sole decision in the marriage and Federigo comes to the conclusion he must give up everything to please the one he loves. Although Federigo goes to an extreme this point is well emphasized.
