There is only 3% of fresh water available to us on Earth. The Verdesian therefore uses the $1,000,000 black water treatment plant of The Solaire. This plant recycles black water using an aeration system. Black water is a waste water which is nutrient rich. It is toilet water, which is a mixture for bacteria and parasites (Class notes). Thus the water treatment plant at The Solaire treats this black water and filters it. The treated water then goes through an Ozone and UV disinfection process.13 The treated water is then reused for flushing toilets and for cooling the towers of the HVAC system. It is a building which symbolizes progress and hard work. Putting into consideration that the same owner has built The Solaire prior to The Verdesian, this shows how motivated people are for change and also shows that with hard work anything can be possible. The Verdesian took studies from its brother The Solaire and pushed its boundaries towards a more perfect green building, achieving the platinum status. This really is another milestone for NYC in being the role model city for the world to follow. Global warming and its effect such as climate change is not a joke. With the continuation of burning fossil fuels, which we must cut down on and increasing population the world is at risk. Therefore, with buildings like The Verdesian there is a better hope for tomorrow. The use of recycled woods and taking into consideration of the ecosystem services for The Verdesian and the reuse of water are some of the highlights that we can trust on. There should definitely be more buildings that are LEED platinum, or even better. There should in fact be only green buildings moving on and that will be a continuous fight for a cleaner and a more sustainable
