The majority of Egypt’s population dwell off of the banks of the Nile River. It is noted, “99% of the total population only use 5.5% of Egypt’s total land area” (Egypt Facts, 2016). Egypt holds many valued treasures and landmarks. The country and culture has seen good fortune in environmental protection throughout the years. (Egypt Facts, 2016)
The Nile River is said to be the most vital piece of survival for the Egyptian people. A series of irrigation systems have been constructed to provide fresh water to the fields so that crops can grow. It being a means for transportation, The Nile River carries people and goods from the north and south of Egypt. The Nile River is a valuable asset to the Egyptian people it is also very dangerous due to crocodiles. The severity of the terrain surrounding the Nile River, most of Egypt’s country is not developed. “The country is serviced by a network of over 64,000 kilometers of primary and secondary roads, only 49,984 kilometers of which are paved” (Egypt-Infastructure, Power and Communications, 2016). The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights was founded in 1985 and is a non-government organization. This organization exist to “investigate, monitor, and report human rights violations” (Egypt-Infastructure, Power and Communications, 2016). To ensure the perseverance of artifacts and historical structures, Egypt has a charity called the Egyptian Cultural Heritage Organization. Their goal is to preserve structures and safe guard them from environmental elements and civilians. Although, there are groups that support and value the lives of the Egyptian people there are still many that only recognize hate and destruction to persuade civilians in their favor. One group that is in existence in Egypt is known as the Muslim Brotherhood. Their main purpose is to overthrow the Egyptian government and enforce Radical Islam.
