Abilify: (aripiprazole)
It is an antipsychotic drug. It works by the changing the actions of chemicals in the brain.
The symptoms such as schzopherenia and bipolar disorder (maniac depression) are can be treated by using abilify. It is not known that usage of this drug in children of age about13yrs, if it is effective or not, or children of age 10yrs with suffering from bipolar disorder.
It is also used in children of 6yrs or older who have tourette’s disorder, or symptoms of autism (irritability, mood swings, and self-injury).

The starting daily dose of tablet formulation in this patients was 2 mg, which is titrated to 5mg after 2 days and to be the target dose of 10mg. abilify can be administered without regards to meal.
Bipolar 1 disorder:
Acute treatment of maniac and mixed episodes
Adults: the starting dose in adults is 15mg given once daily and 10-15mg once In daily with valproate. Abilify can be given with regards to meals.
Pediatrics: the starting dose in pediatric patients (10-17yrs) as is 2mg /day after 2 additional days. Recommended dosing with valproate is the same. Subsequent dose should be increased, if needed, should be administered in 5mg/day increments.
Tourette’s disorder:
Pediatric patients 6-18yrs)
The recommended dose range for tourette’s disorder is 5-20mg/day. For patients weighing less than 50kgs dose should be started at 2mg/day with a target dose of 5mg/day, after 2days dose is be increased to 10mg/day in patients who don not achieve control over symptoms. For patients 50kg or more weight, dosing should be started from 2mg/day for 2 days , and it is increased to 5mg /day on day 8th, the dose should be increased to 20mg/day for who do not achieve control over symptoms.
