The article was about a Time-Line Genogram (TLG), which plots time on the vertical axis to display life events, changes that occur in relationships, and highlights of family’s history. The genogram displays information about family members and their relationships over several generations. The article then goes into giving examples of how a time line genogram compares to a standard genogram. The article then goes to explain what it is to be aware and sensitive about another’s culture and explains why it is important in our field of work. The article goes into explaining how training family therapist will become more competent at their job if they get the training needed to become culturally aware and sensitive to their clients. Through this process of training the therapist they will gain greater insight into and appreciation for the ways in which culture impacts their role as therapists and influences the lives of clients in treatment. The article explains how the cultural genogram is designed to accomplish its primary goal by illustrating and clarifying the influence that culture has on the family system. I felt like the content of the article was really good and informative. I would defiantly suggest that future MFT students read this because it will be helpful going into our field of …show more content…
The article wanted to explain how Bronfenbrenner’s theory has changed throughout the years and that when basing your research on this theory, it is important be clear on whether you’re using the older or newer version. The chapter explains how Bronfenbrenner’s theory of human development went through a bunch of changes from the 1970s up until 2005. This was because although his theory was about the development of children and adolescents, it was also important to know that a person’s family plays a big part in a child’s development, as well as the child’s environment. I liked how the author explained how bioecology was changed from just ecology because Bronfenbrenner wanted to make the participation of the person in his or her own development very important. It wasn’t my favorite thing to read because it was really long and I can sometimes get lost in the words and forget what I am reading. But I would suggest this chapter be read by future MFT students because Bronfenbrenner’s name is going to be heard all throughout your classes so it’s best to go ahead and get familiar with his theories
