During this last twentieth century, a transformational new era of business could be witnessed. The world is getting smaller as the development of sufficient infrastructure and sophisticated information system, which ease the interaction between scattered countries all over the world (Cavusgil, 2008). Therefore, this makes many companies use the opportunity to achieve a long-term profitability and to remain survive sustainable business by expanding their business become International Business. International Business could come in many different ways, like importing and exporting, establishing a foreign direct investment (FDI), or making cooperation with a cross border transportation or communication services. Beside all the opportunities, as …show more content…
With the gleam opportunities of International Business, going global will also enhance many new trials to the ever challenging and risky nature of SMEs. The lack of financial, resources, market power, and competences causing some of the companies failed once they try shifting to International Business (Bianchi, 2006, p. 74). Therefore, though the risky business nature, many SME felt the urgency to go global in this era, some failed companies indicate if there are any others that successfully engage in International Business. Moreover, a study by Nummela (2006) indicates if there are an increased number of Small Firms operating in International environment, which shows that the threat of going global is not extinguishing the spirit of many SMEs companies out there to getting involved in international trade (Musso & Francioni, 2014, p. 304). Korsakiene and Baranauskiene on their study in 2011 state that the motivating factors and the operational process drivers of internationalization are the key success reason for SME in surviving International Business. The motives and drivers that led SME to going global may be vary in accordance to their different industry fields, enterprise size, and past operating experience (Kubíčkováa, Votoupalová, & Toulováb, 2014, p. 320) that makes the possibility of the drivers to going global would not be the same for every small firms existed. Judging from this, with the right strategies, motives, drivers of internationalization, and commitment of the resources, the possibility for SME to go global is always
