When we examine race and gender identity, they all have limiting factors in society. In American Born Chinese (ABC) Themes of epidemic segregation between Asian peoples and white people shows the way white passing privilege depicts your spot on social political pyramid. Highlighting the fact that 60% of America is Caucasian, who are top of the social political pyramid in America. American Born Chinese has also portrayed ‘humorous’ racism towards Asian-Americans. For example, the cousin character, though racist, revealed how the whole of Asian Americans were treated after Pearl Harbor.

In Chapter 1, the Monkey King was introduced as a kind leader, but soon took a turn for the worse when he was denied entry to a deity only party. He was turned away because of his appearance and how big/small he was, “I do not make mistakes, little monkey. A monkey I intended you to be. This racist trend occurred to Jin Wang as well. Jin Wang/ Danny was considering joining the antagonizers to add on bullying Wei Chen; wanting to fit in whilst fighting his internalized racism towards his ‘people’. This shows how normalized racism is, Jin Wang internalized his experience with racism to the point he thought it was normal to act this way. This is how harmful racism is to young people.
