The arrival of a child was a welcome event in the Inca empire, both parents were required to perform rituals to ensure the safe delivery of the infant. Pregnant women were expected to continue working until the day they gave birth, which was done without assistance. The newborn was either placed in a cradle, carried by the mother while she worked or tied in a pack across her chest. The baby was named later during a ceremony called ‘rutichikoy’ where they were no longer breastfed. The child would have a haircut and their fingernails trimmed.

-The Llama: The llama is traditionally the main supplier of sustenance, material, transportation and fertiliser or dung which contributed to agriculture.They were seen as holy gifts from the Gods and were cherished for what they can provide. The ideology was if they used this animal to it’s full extent it can grant them absolute spirituality and divinity. It is a beast of burden and is prominently a sacred symbol to the ancient Andeans, they adored this creature that much that Metal Llama sculptures were buried with deceased and were given as an offering to the Gods to ensure the fertility. This symbol can be found in places around Peru and Bolivia, The Chakana is an icon either worn as a talisman, as jewellery, or used in architectural design on many buildings, temples, and artifacts such as on the Condor Temple in Machu Picchu. Chakay loosely translates “to cross” or “to bridge” and is derived from the ancient Incan language Quechua which is still spoken today! When the Chakana is used for meditation or for training/teaching, it is said to bring mental balance and a deeper insight at many levels of consciousness.
