Today women are still being segregated from men. “Women make 81 cents per every dollar a man makes.” (Weatherington) That is not equality! Just because a women is a different sex makes it seem OKAY for her to get paid less. Especially when women have the same amount of schooling and talent as men, they should at least get the same pay! Even during the Salem witch trials women were treated unequally. Women were being accused left and right for “bewitching” other people. And just because one person claimed that a lady was a witch, she was immediately killed even for getting accused. “Martha Carrier was indicted for the bewitching certain persons...It was Martha or her shape that grievously tormented them” (The Trial of Martha Carrier). How in the name of God is this fair?! It is not fair. This is definitely not equality. In this time, men and women were killed even if someone suspected they were a witch. These “witches” were being called out by people all over and it was not right because there was absolutely no logical evidence to support the accusers. These trails is by far the best example of what equality does not look like. Overall, equality is shown in many scenarios in America’s history. It is absolutely astonishing that “all men are created equal” was written into the Declaration of Independence, but it is horrible that giving equal rights to everyone took so long to do. The fact that equality was spread a bit more after the American Revolution, helps Americans gain more rights. Unfortunately segregation still exists today.
