On March 22, 1765, in a very little town, the British Parliament passed the “Stamp Act” to help pay for British troops stationed in the colonies during the Seven Years’ War. As I pass the british soldiers, I hear them say something about the new law. As I act like I am talking to someone, I listen in on what they are saying. “ Yeah, chief told me that there is going to be a new law. It’s called the “Stamp Act”. He said that it means that the colonists are going to pay taxes on documents, papers, and playing cards.” Said a soldier. I thought right away, I should tell my mother! I was walking to the store to get some food, when all of the sudden this man came up to me. He started to yell a whole bunch of jumbled up words. I thought to myself: what is this man saying? Is he just a crazy person or what? “Excuse me sir, but what are you saying?” “ DO NOT GO IN THERE! You’ll get your money taxed!” the old man said very determined. I thought Is this person crazy or what? “Um..sir, are you okay?” “ NO! I’m not okay! I just got all my money taken away! I just needed some paper and then boom! They ask me for all of my money! ” He said very loudly. I got really scared. I thought he was going to either hit me across the face or something else. So the only thing that I could do was steal. I really didn’t want to but, I had to. So I slowly started to grab a loaf of bread, but then a soldier took his gun and put part of it on my hand. I got so scared that I jumped back, still having the loaf of bread in my hand. “ What do you think you’re doing missy?” the bulky man said. I thought very quickly maybe I can lie and tell him that I was poor and my parent and I are very hungry. “ Sorry sir but my parents and I are very poor and we really need something to eat.” I said trying to sound like I am sick. Right as I said that, he yelled “ Someone give this girl some food!” Then right away everyone that had a stand gave me food. Then I kind of felt very selfish that I did that. I am not really poor, I just lied to a soldier!
