I never knew this before but it made me think that there could be a way to change this. I always knew that diabetes was sometimes a result of obesity, so why should the treatment make the situation worse. When a diabetic person doesn’t take insulin their blood glucose level is high. You become dehydrated and your body works to clear the excess blood glucose. This loss is only water weight though. When the diabetic properly takes insulin, insulin is now circulating your blood to get into cells where it can be used as energy rather than spending time in the blood stream and being excreted as urine. Therefore, the diabetic “gains weight”. The treatment doesn’t necessarily make the diabetic gain weight, it means the diabetic has to make adjustments because he or she has to balance eating enough so there isn’t a low blood glucose reaction but not as much as he or she has been eating to offset the high blood glucose
